This race, which was comprised of mostly first and second time starters, is a nightmare for somebody whose only resource is the Daily Racing Form. But I’ve cashed many big tickets in races like this and Saturday was no different. The winner, #5 Naughty Nine, shot right from the gate and led the whole way. At 17/1, his odds fell perfectly between 10/1 and 19/1 range that I was looking for, so my $200 wager was in play. However, the post time odds on the other horses I was watching, #3 Student Prince and #10 Rochelle’s Jimmy, were out of the betting zone so I didn’t touch them.

Hi, very insightful post. Do you have any good racing tips? I am looking to get into this market. Trying my hand at sports betting now I used to play poker. Happy New Year!

Hello, thanks for the comment. Glad you’re trying to get into this market. My tip for you is that in So. Cal. maiden sprints don’t bet on any horses that are less than 2/1, but instead try to find maidens that will run well who don’t have the best Beyer Speed Figures.

Hi again. Thanks for your reply. It really seams you know alot about this! Nice to see your bankroll is going in the right direction. I’m starting off small at first. There are a lot of racetrackes near where I live but using betting exchanges seams to be they new way to go!
